What You Need To Know About Apple Pay

Apple Pay is a mobile payment system that allows users to make payments using their Apple devices. It can replace a credit or debit card’s chip and PIN. It can be used in various ways, such as in apps and stores.

Apple Pay does not require a specific payment terminal, unlike other payment methods. It can work with any merchant’s contactless payment system.

It also adds two-factor authentication by using the Touch ID or Face ID. Apple Pay works with point-of-sale systems that use Near Field Communication (NFC). These systems can communicate with devices using an embedded secure element known as an ESE.

Apple Pay is compatible with various devices, such as the iPhone 6 and the newer versions, iPad Air 2, and more recent, as well as Mac computers with Touch ID. It can also hold up to 16 cards. Loyalty cards do not count against this limit.

Does Market Basket Take Apple Pay?

Since it was first introduced in 2014, Apple Pay has been gaining widespread acceptance.

It was ranked as the most popular mobile payment system in 2021, outpacing services such as Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and PayPal.

It’s no surprise that Market Basket would start supporting this payment method.

Although Apple Pay is free to use in Market Basket, it comes with a fee for international transactions.

This fee applies to transactions made in countries with a currency conversion rate higher than the US dollar.

Like Apple Pay works in other stores, it will still give you all the rewards you would get with your physical card.

For instance, if you use Apple Pay at Market Basket, you’ll still receive the 1% cashback on your purchases even if you have an American Express credit card. But you’ll still need to present a physical card for the transaction to complete.

How Does Apple Pay Work?

Apple Pay utilizes the Payment Tokenization Specification, ensuring that the information a customer provides to a merchant is kept private.

This method works by replacing the customer’s physical card with a device’s primary account number, which is known as a DPAN.

To ensure that the information that a customer provides to a merchant is kept private, Apple Pay uses a dynamic security code. This ensures that the transactions are secure and that the bank and the vendors cannot track the system’s usage.

When using Apple Pay, users hold their device’s near-field communication (NFC) card reader to the point of sale to confirm their identity.

iPhone users can do this by either Touch ID or Face ID, while Apple Watch users can do it by double-tapping a button. Apple Pay can also be used in supported apps for iOS.

There are several ways that users can add their payment cards to Apple Pay. They can do so by going to the issuer’s app, taking a photo of their card, entering their card information manually, or provisioning it through their iTunes accounts.

Although Apple Pay can notify users about a transaction, it does not provide instant funds transfer between the parties involved. This is because the fund transfer process takes time.
